Mayor's Community Message

19 November

YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE YOUR SAY

Getting community input into local development is vital to getting better outcomes. That’s why I was disappointed when a small minority of Councillors raised objections to Council encouraging people to have their say on the proposed Woolworths Gladesville development. It’s surprising these few Councillors raised any concerns when it was only in September the majority of Councillors endorsed taking action and raising urgent concerns with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) regarding the scale and intensity of the proposed development. Our votes and decisions in Council matter, that’s why we acted.

TG MILLNER
My last plea to the state and federal governments requesting they step in to save the precious TG Millner Fields from the developers’ bulldozers has remained unanswered. We need to build liveable communities, not just houses, and the retention of the 6.2ha TG Millner site for active open space is a critical requirement for our fast-growing population, which is already facing an alarming deficit of sports fields. I again urge the state and federal governments for strong, unbending bipartisan support on this vital cause.

WHITE RIBBON DAY

White Ribbon Day is marked annually on 25 November, coinciding with the start of the international 16 Days of Activism.

Council wholeheartedly supports these important causes aimed at ending violence against women and families.

On Wednesday 26 November, Council is supporting the Ryde Hunters Hill Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Committee’s Make a Stand Against Abuse walk so please join us from 8.30am – 10.30am in the Macquarie Park precinct.

CONNECTING WITH YOUR COMMUNITY

If you are curious about social groups in the Ryde area, I encourage you to attend the upcoming 'Connecting with Your Community' Expo to celebrate Social Inclusion Week on Monday 24 November between 10.00am and 12.00pm at Ryde Library. The expo will have a variety of local social and community groups together at the one event.
