A

Aerosol containers 
Aerosol cans are made of recyclable metal. Place empty aerosol cans in your yellow lid recycling bin. Leave the plastic or metallic cap on for recycling.

Aerosol containers with contents and pressurized cylinders, such as soda stream, should be taken to nearest Household Chemical Cleanout event or to a Community Recycling Centre near you. 

Air conditioners
You may be able to get installers to remove the air conditioner if you are getting a new one. If reusable, sell or donate online.
Alternatively, this item can be a part of your Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Aluminium and steel cans
Place empty aluminium and steel cans in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Aluminium foil and trays (clean)
Put clean aluminium foil and trays in your yellow lid recycling bin. Collect a few aluminium foils to make a scrunched ball (as big as tennis ball) so that the ball is heavy enough to be recovered at the recycling centre.

Unclean foils should be placed in your red lid general waste bin.

Animal droppings and litter
Place in your red lid general waste bin.

Asbestos
All asbestos waste must be securely packed and be transported to a landfill facility licensed to receive that waste. Click here to find out more about asbestos and how to dispose of it.

Ash
Wood ash is recyclable in a compost bin. Alternatively, allow to cool and place it in a bag (do not throw in loose) and place in your red lid general waste bin.

Audio tapes
Sell or donate online. Alternatively, put them in your red lid general waste bin.

B

Bathroom items (recyclables)
The following items can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin:

  • Inner cardboard roll after using toilet rolls
  • Empty containers of shampoo, conditioners, body wash
  • Empty hair gel tubs
  • Empty aerosol cans used for air fresheners, deodorant and hair spray
  • Empty glass bottles used for aftershave, perfume or vitamins
  • Empty cleaning product bottles

Bathroom items (non-recyclable)
The following items should be placed in your red lid general waste bin:

  • Razors
  • Toothbrushes (Electric toothbrushes can be dropped off for free at the Community Recycling Centre in Artarmon)
  • Toothpaste tubes

Batteries (household)
Batteries used in cameras, torches, toys, hearing aids, watches and other appliances can be recycled at your nearest Problem Waste Recycling Station or Community Recycling Centre. Alternatively, you can take them to your nearest Aldi, Battery World, IKEA or to a Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Batteries (vehicle) 
Take to the nearest Community Recycling Centre or Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Bicycles
Reusable bicycles can be donated to local charity, or sell or donate online. Check with bike repair companies such as The Bower Reuse & Repair centre, Recycles Sydney, or Nunnery bike workshop if they can fix your broken bike. If unrepairable, this can be disposed of in your Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Biscuit packets and trays
Recycle biscuit trays in your yellow lid recycling bin. Please put wrappers in your red lid garbage bin as they cannot be recycled through the kerbside collection.

Books
You can donate good quality books to a local charity. You may also be able to sell textbooks online. Alternatively, books can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Bottle tops and jar lids
Loose steel bottle tops smaller than a 50 cent coin are too small to recycle by themselves. Store steel bottle tops in steel cans and squash the top of the can down to keep them together during the recycling process. Remove jar lids and recycle separately those that are bigger than a 50 cent coin.

Branches and prunings
Council offers a free Chipping and Mulching Service for residents in City of Ryde. 

Branches and prunings up to 75mm in diameter and 75cm in length can be placed in your green lid garden organics bin. 

You can also book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection that includes garden organics providing it is bundled and tied and meets the criteria.

Bras
You can donate your usable bras through Uplift Project. You can also check with your local charity if they accept them. If not, place in your red lid garbage bin.

Bricks, concrete, and building materials
Contact a reuse organisation to check they accept the quantity and quality of materials you have. If they are good condition material, you can sell or donate online. You may be able to recycle bricks and tiles at your nearest transfer station where charges may apply. Alternatively look on Recycling Near You or search online for a disposal company.

Bubble Wrap
Reuse if possible. If not, place in your red lid general waste bin. 

C

Candle
Candle contains materials like paraffin wax which cannot be recycled. Place in your red lid general waste bin.

Camera
If your camera is functioning well, consider selling or donating online. Your local charity shop might also be interested in it.
If not, camera along with batteries and photographic accessories can also be recycled at Camera Recycle Australia.

Carcasses (dead pets and animals)
Contact your local vet for burial and disposal options. Or take to nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Car parts and car bodies
Most metallic car parts can be recycled at metal merchants, try searching on Recycling Near You. Alternatively take them to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Cardboard
Put cardboard, including pizza boxes without food scraps and milk, and juice cartons, in your yellow lid recycling bin. If you have large quantities of cardboard, take it to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre – check whether this is a free service.

Cardboard (waxed)
Place waxed cardboard in your red lid garbage bin as it cannot be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Cards and wrapping paper
Reuse wrapping paper where possible. Otherwise, cards and wrapping paper without plastic lining can be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Cartons (juice, milk, etc.)
Empty cartons of milk and juice are acceptable in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Cigarette Butts
Place in your red lid general waste bin when fully extinguished.

Cling Wrap
Consider replacing cling wrap with reusable wrap made from silicone or beeswax. Alternatively, place them in your red lid general waste bin.

Clothing
Donate good quality clothing, footwear and accessories to local charity stores or put in one of Council’s clothing bins operated by King Cotton. Unwearable clothing can be collected by organisations such as Upparel to be turned into rags.

Clothing and blankets
Items in good condition can be donated to the clothing bins in City of Ryde. Good quality shoes and handbags are also accepted in the clothing bins.

You can also donate good quality clothing to your local charity.

Coat hangers
These can be donated to your local dry cleaner or charity. If they are no longer usable, plastic coat hangers are too thin to recycle so put them in your red lid general waste bin. Wire coat hangers could be taken to a metal recycler, try searching Recycling Near You.

Carpet and underlay
You can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection. Alternatively take these items to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Cellophane paper
Reuse cellophane paper when possible or donate to preschools for craft activities. Alternatively, place in your red lid general waste bin.

Chemicals
Household chemicals should be taken to a Household Chemical Cleanout event. 

Household quantities of motor oils and paint can be taken to a Community Recycling Centre near you. These items may also be accepted at your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Christmas trees
You are able to compost your Christmas tree. Council also offers a free Chipping and Mulching Service for residents of City of Ryde. 

Alternatively, branches and pruning up to 75 mm in diameter and 75 cm in length can be placed in your green lid garden organics bin. You can also book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection that includes garden organics providing it is bundled and tied and meets the criteria. 

If it is a plastic tree, consider reusing it for next year. Alternatively, place in your red lid general waste bin, ensuring the lid will close. If it is too big, you may book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

CDs/DVDs and cases
Offer to others if items are in reusable condition, otherwise place in your red lid general waste bin.

Computers and cables
Book a free Television and Computer Collection Service by calling council’s Customer Service on 9952 8222. You can also include items such as screens, monitors, printers, scanners and cables. Alternatively, take computers and televisions to your nearest Community Recycling Centre.

Officeworks stores also accept computers and accessories.

Cups (disposable)
Takeaway coffee cups contain a thin plastic coating and cannot be recycled so should be placed in in your red lid general waste bin. Consider using reusable mugs or ‘Keep Cups’ to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Paper cups without a plastic lining can be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Crockery and cutlery
Organize a garage sale if you have a bunch of usable crockery and cutlery along with other usable household items you do not want. They can also be donated to a reuse organisation or to your local charity

Consider using metal reusable cutlery instead of plastic cutlery when possible. If it is necessary to buy single-use cutlery, look for compostable items.

D

Detergents
Empty plastic bottles for liquid detergents and cardboard boxes for detergent powders can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Drink cans and bottles
Place empty drink cans and bottles in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Drinking glasses
Donate usable drinking glasses to charity. Place broken drinking glasses in your red lid garbage bin.

Drums (Oil etc)
Smaller size plastic and metal drums can be placed in your recycling bin. For larger size drums, contact drumMuster for drop off. 

E

Egg cartons
These can be disposed of in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Electronic goods
If usable sell or donate online or donate to a reuse organisation. If not usable, take to a Community Recycling Centre near you.

Envelopes
All paper and card envelopes can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Exercise equipment
If usable sell or donate online or donate to a reuse organisation. If unusable, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

F

Fencing
If reusable, sell or donate online or donate to a reuse organisation. If it is a metal fence, you can take to metal merchants - try searching for on Recycling Near You. Alternatively, it can be taken to Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.  Small quantities of fencing can be tied and bundled, and you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection

Flowers
You are able to compost your flowers.  Alternatively, put them in your green lid garden organics bin.

Fluoro light globes
Compact fluorescent globes (energy efficient globes) can be recycled at your nearest Problem Waste Recycling Station or Community Recycling Centre (the CRC also accepts tubes). IKEA stores also provide a drop off facility for fluorescent globes and tubes. Do not place in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Foam
Foam is not recyclable in your yellow lid recycling bin so try searching on Recycling Near You for recycling options. Alternatively, place in your red lid general waste bin (ensure lid is closed) or, if it is a large quantity, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Furniture
Donate your reusable furniture such as tables, chairs, doors, etc. to a reuse organisation, donate to charity, or sell or donate online.
If not in usable condition, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Fire extinguishers
Take to a Community Recycling Centre near you or to your nearest Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Food and vegetable waste
By composting you can turn your food leftovers into nutrient rich material which is great for feeding house plants and backyard gardens. Council offers residents subsidised compost bins or worm farms.

Food containers
Disposable plastic food containers (such as yoghurt and margarine containers, take away containers and hard plastic fruit containers) can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin after removing the food scraps. 

G

Garden tools and hose
If in good condition, donate to a reuse organisation. If items are large, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection. Smaller items can be placed in your red lid general waste bin. Do not place in your green lid garden organics bin.

Garden waste (organics)
Put your garden organics such as lawn clippings, bark and leaves, weeds, prunings and branches (up to 75mm in diameter and 75cm in length) in your green lid garden organics bin.  Alternatively lawn clippings and leaves can go in your compost bin.

Council offers residents a free Chipping and Mulching Service for larger branches and prunings.
You can also book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection that includes garden organics providing it is bundled and tied and meets the criteria.

Gas cylinders and bottles
Take to nearest Community Recycling Centre  or Household Chemical Cleanout event. 
They are NOT accepted in your Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Glass
Place unusable or broken glass bottles in your yellow lid recycling bin. 

Broken window glass, drinking glasses or mirrors should be wrapped in newspaper and placed in red lid general waste bin, provided they are small enough to fit properly. Larger items should be taken to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply. 

Note: mirrors and glass items such as doors, tables and windows are NOT accepted in your Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Green Bags 
Reuse your green bags (made of woven plastics) as much as possible. If these cannot be used any longer, place them in your red lid general waste bin. They are not accepted in your yellow lid recycling bin.

H

Hair (human or animal)
You can compost animal or human hair at home. Alternatively, place in your red lid general waste bin.

Heaters
Check with a reuse organisation if they are able to fix your heater. Alternatively, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Hot water systems
Book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection if it can be lifted by two people, otherwise take to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

I

Inkjet cartridges
Drop off your used or empty inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges and toner bottles at your nearest Problem Waste Recycling Station. Other locations to drop off inkjet cartridges include Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi stores and participating Australia Post, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys outlets. Do not place in any of your household waste bins.

Insulation batts
Take them to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

J

Junk Mail
All paper leaflets, flyers and other advertising materials in your mail box can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin. If there is plastic wrap around it, remove the plastic wrap first and place the wrap in your red lid general waste bin.
A free no advertising mail sticker for your mailbox can be collected from the Customer Service Centre at 1 Pope Street, Ryde NSW 2112.

K

Kitchen appliances
Sell kitchen appliances in good condition or book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Kitchen towel
You are able to compost paper towels. Alternatively, place used kitchen towel in your red lid general waste bin. You can place the inner cardboard tube in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Knives
Wrap securely with newspaper and place in your red lid garbage bin. 

L

Laminated paper
Place in your red lid general waste bin.

Laundry containers (recyclables)
The following items used in laundry can be recycled through your yellow lid recycling bin:

  • Washing detergent boxes
  • Empty plastic containers for washing liquid, fabric softener, stain remover and cleaning products

Light globes
Drop off your used light globes at your nearest Problem Waste Recycling Station. Fluoro tubes can be taken to your nearest Community Recycling Centre. Do not place these items in your bins.

Linen
Donate to charity items such as towels, bed sheets, cushions, blankets, etc. which are in usable condition. If they cannot be used, put them in red lid general waste bin ensuring the lid can close.

Laundry tubs
Usable laundry tubs can be taken to local charity if they accept them. Alternatively, you may want to sell or donate online. You may also donate to a reuse organisation

If not in usable condition, metallic tubs can be sold to metal merchants - try searching on Recycling Near You. Alternatively, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Lawn mowers
If in working condition, you may want to sell or donate online or donate to a reuse organisation. If not in usable condition, sell to metal merchants by searching on Recycling Near You. Alternatively, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Leather goods
Usable leather items can be sold or donated online or donated to a reuse organisation. Alternatively, small items can be placed in your red lid general waste bin.

Lino Flooring
Good usable material can be sold or donated online or donated to a reuse organisation

If not in usable condition book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection. Alternatively take these items to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

A small quantity can be placed in your red lid general waste bin.

Lunch boxes (rigid plastic)
Reuse your lunch box as much as possible. If broken, place in your red lid general waste bin (this type of plastic cannot be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin).

M

Magazines
Pass magazines on to friends to make optimum use. You may also donate to hospital or retirement village for reading material. Alternatively place them in your yellow lid recycling bin. If wrapped with plastic, remove the plastic and place it in your red lid general waste bin.

Margarine tubs
Place in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Mattresses
If in good condition, check with your local charity whether they accept them. Alternatively, you may want to sell or donate online

If not in usable condition, you can pay for a recycling collection through Soft Landing

Alternatively, book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection - check the terms and conditions for the size of mattress accepted.

Meat trays
Rigid plastic trays can be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin once meat scraps are removed. If the tray is made of foam, place it in your red lid general waste bin.

Medical waste
Residents can drop off their syringes and dialysis material at their nearest participating pharmacies. Syringes being disposed of must be placed in a proper sharps container. Sharps containers are available for free from the Customer Service Centre at 1 Pope Street, Ryde.

Medicines
Take expired and unwanted medicines to your local pharmacy for safe disposal as part of the Return Unwanted Medicine Project.

Milk bottles and cartons
Place empty milk bottles and cartons in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Mirrors
Wrap small mirrors securely with newspaper and place in your red lid garbage bin. Larger items should be taken to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Mobile Phones
Mobile phones can be recycled at your nearest Problem Waste Recycling Station or Community Recycling Centre.  Some local banks or phone stores also have a Mobile Muster recycling receptacle or you can pick up a free reply paid recycling satchels from Australia post. 

Nappies
Consider using reusable modern cloth nappies to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. 

Disposable nappies cannot be recycled so it should be placed in your red lid general waste bin.

Newspapers
Place clean newspapers in your yellow lid recycling bin.

O

Oils (cooking)
Small quantities of oil can be composted or placed in your red lid general waste bin in a sealed container. Take larger quantities to your nearest Community Recycling Centre or to a Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Oils (motor)
Take to your nearest Community Recycling Centre or Household Chemical Cleanout event. Alternatively you can take motor oil to a Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Ovens
If usable you may want to sell or donate online. If not in usable condition, book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection. Alternatively, drop off to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

P

Pen and pencils
Place in your red lid general waste bin.

Paint
Paint tins can be taken to your nearest Community Recycling Centre or Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Palm fronds
Take to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply. 

Paper
Clean paper can placed in your yellow lid recycling bin. Shredded paper can be composted or placed in your red lid general waste bin. Wrapping paper with plastic lining should be placed in your red lid general waste bin.

Photos
Place in your red lid general waste bin.

Pill packets
Place plastic or aluminium pill packets in your red lid garbage bin.

Pizza boxes
Empty pizza boxes can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin. Please remove all food scraps and put these in your red lid garbage bin. 

Plastic bags 
Use reusable bags for shopping – store bags in your vehicle or place a small bag in your purse.

Soft plastics such as plastic bags, garbage bags and cling wrap are light-weight and frequently jam the machines at the Material Recovery Facility so do not place them in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Plastic containers (bottles and tubs)
Place in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Post Satchels
Place in your red lid general waste bin as they cannot be recycled through the kerbside collection. 

Plastic wrapping and packaging

You can recycle plastic wrapping from your doorstep through our trial RecycleSmart service for free. Find out more.

Do not put these in your yellow lid recycling bin as they cannot be recycled through the kerbside collection. 

Polystyrene
Place polystyrene in your red lid garbage bin as it cannot be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin. Alternatively, look on Recycling Near You for a recycling company.

Porcelain, pottery and Pyrex
Donate to charity if usable. You may also donate to a reuse organisation. Otherwise place in your red lid general waste bin.

Pool chemicals
Take to your nearest Household Chemical Cleanout event.

R

Refrigerator
Most companies buy back old fridges when you purchase a new one. Alternatively, you can book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Renovation material
If the material is in good condition, you may be able to sell or donate online or donate to a reuse organisation. You may also be able to recycle bricks and tiles at your nearest transfer station where fees may apply. Alternatively look on Recycling Near You for a recycling company or dispose of at your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply. 

Do NOT place in your red lid general waste bin or in your Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

S

Sand / soil
Dispose of at your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Shoes
Donate your unwanted usable shoes to charity. If not, place in your red lid general waste bin.

Smoke alarms
Take to the nearest Community Recycling Centre or Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Spectacles
You can donate your unwanted spectacles. Otherwise, place in your red lid general waste bin.

Spray cans
You can place empty cans in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Soft plastics
You can recycle soft plastics from your doorstep through our trial RecycleSmart service for free. Find out more.

Do not put these in your yellow lid recycling bin as they cannot be recycled through the kerb side collection. 

Solar Lights
If usable sell or donate online. If not usable, take to a Community Recycling Centre near you. 

Solar Panels
Solar panels and/or battery systems cannot go into kerbside bins and should not be presented in household clean-ups as they contain hazardous materials. Currently the Northern Sydney Community Recycling Centre also does not accept solar panels.

Disconnecting solar panels can be dangerous and should only be completed by a licenced professional. Your first point of contact for recycling of solar panels should always be your solar or battery retailer or installer. You can check that professionals are accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia by asking for their accreditation number and checking their accreditation status on the Solar Accreditation Australia website.

The licenced professional should take the solar panels, batteries, and inverters with them for recycling. 

Solvents
Solvents, household cleaning products and chemicals can be disposed of at or Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Steel cans
Place in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Syringes and needles
Residents can drop off their syringes (and dialysis material) at their nearest participating pharmacies. Syringes being disposed of must be placed in a proper sharps container. Sharps containers are available for free from the Customer Service Centre at 1 Pope Street, Ryde.

Styrofoam (Polystyrene)
Reduce use of containers made of Styrofoam by using durable containers where possible.  Place Styrofoam containers in your red lid garbage bin as they cannot be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin. Alternatively, look on Recycling Near You for a recycling company. 

T

Tables and chairs
If these are in usable condition, sell or donate online or check with a local charity if they are happy to accept them. You can donate tables and chairs to a reuse organisation

Alternatively, book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Takeaway food containers (not polystyrene)
Remove food scraps and place in the yellow lid recycling bin. Polystyrene food containers should be placed in the red lid general waste bin.

Tea Bags
Tea bags can be composted or placed in your red lid general waste bin.

Television
Book a free Television and Computer Collection Service by calling Council’s Customer service on 9952 8222. Alternatively, take televisions to your nearest Community Recycling Centre.

Timber
Book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection – wood must be bundled and tied nails removed or hammered flat (see terms and conditions for size restrictions). You may also donate to a reuse organisation. Alternatively, take to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Tissues or toilet paper
Place in the red lid general waste bin. 

Toys
Donate unwanted toys to friends or charity. If not usable and small in size, put them in your red lid general waste bin. Alternatively, book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

Tools (hammer, saw, electrical tools, etc.)
Good usable tools can be sold or donated online or donated to a reuse organisation.

If not in usable condition, small sized items can be placed in your red lid general waste bin.  Alternatively, book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection. Ensure the items are in bags or boxes.

Tyres
Some tyre services centres will recycle your old tyres for free when you purchase new ones. Alternatively, take them to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

U

Underwear
You can donate your usable underwear through Uplift Project. Otherwise, place in your red lid general waste bin.

V

Vacuum
Book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection or take to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Vacuum cleaner dust
If it only contains dust particles, compost at home. Alternatively, place in a bag then in your red lid general waste bin.

Vinyl records
Reusable vinyl records can be sold or donated online. If not in usable condition, place in your red lid general waste bin.

W

Washing Machine
If in working condition, you may donate to a reuse organisation. Alternatively, book a Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection or take to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.

Weeds
Place in your green lid garden organics bin.

Wrapping paper
If wrapping paper is plastic lined, cellophane, or foil styled gift paper, place in your red lid general waste bin. Paper wrapping paper can be recycled in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Waxed cardboard
Items such as milk cartons, stock cartons or ice cream cartons can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin. However, waxed coated fruit and vegetables boxes cannot be recycled because it is difficult to recover paper fibres from them – place in your red lid general waste bin.

Wire
Reusable wire can be sold or donated online. You can also find metal merchants by searching Recycling Near You.
Alternatively, if the quantity is small, place in your red lid general waste bin ensuring the lid can close.

Window frame and panes
Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection or take to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply. If frames are intact, you may also donate to a reuse organisation

Note: glass is not accepted in your Pre-booked Household Clean-Up Collection.

X

X-ray film
X-ray film can be taken to your nearest Community Recycling Centre. Some companies also accept X-ray film. Otherwise place in your red lid general waste bin.

Y

Yoghurt containers
Empty yogurt containers can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Z

Zip lock bags 
Consider reducing use of zip lock bags and reuse where possible. Alternatively, dispose of bags in your red lid general waste bin as they are not recyclable in your yellow lid recycling bin.

Sell your items online via sites such as Gumtree, Trading Post, eBay, Trash Nothing or donate via Freecycle (fees may apply). Or try listing on your local Facebook Buy Sell Swap pages.

  • Visit Recycling Near You to find out where you can recycle a range of items that are not recyclable through your yellow lid recycling bin.
  • Check recycling options with your nearest Resource Recovery Centre where fees may apply.
  • Hold a Garage Sale - The City of Ryde will promote your garage sale for free and provide a kit with all the tips and information you need.
  • Home-based businesses can find out where to recycle business waste at Business Recycling
